The 2013 York Farmers’ Market is coming! If you are interested in being a vendor at the Farmers’ Market, there are some new rules for 2013.
Time/Location/Season: Once again, the York Farmers’ Market will be held on Thursday evenings from 5:00-7:00 pm on the grounds of the York County Courthouse located between Grant and Lincoln Avenues on 6th Street in downtown York. The core season is June6th through September 5th (Yorkfest). Vendors who chose to have a booth after the core season to sell Fall produce may do so on a first-come, first serve basis up to October 10th. NEW FOR 2013…we are experimenting with a NEW Saturday Morning Farmers Market once a month (third Saturday of June, July, August and September) to see if there is an audience for Saturday mornings from 8:00-10:00 am. As a vendor you can choose to do Thursday evenings and/or Saturday mornings.
Fees: Booth spaces at the Farmers Market are 10X10’. There are 22 spaces along 6th street reserved for SEASONAL PARTICIPANTS. The fee includes one parking space for every booth rented. Other spaces at the Market are rented on a weekly basis and does NOT include a parking space. Electricity is available for a small additional fee. The 2013 Rates are:
Thursday Seasonal: $50.00/year
Thursday weekly: $ 5.00/week
Saturday Seasonal: $10.00/year
Saturday weekly: $ 5.00/week
TH & SA Seasonal: $60.00/year
Electricity Seasonal: $20.00/year
Electricity Weekly: $ 2.00/week
Chamber of Commerce Members: Current members of the York Chamber of Commerce will be provided booth space at no charge, but you must register as a seasonal or weekly vendor. The fee for electrical service will apply. Vendors who are current Chamber of Commerce members CAN accept Chamber Checks as payment for their product. The Chamber will provide appropriate signage for your booth if needed.
Booth Assignments: Booth assignments are on a first-come, first-serve basis. The spaces along 6th street in front of the Courthouse are reserved for those buying the whole season. Vendors are responsible for providing their own tables and chairs. Tents are permissible as long as they are confined to the 10X10’ area and not blocking traffic. You may rent multiple spaces provided you pay for the extra space.
Product Guidelines: The Chamber of Commerce has determined that only handmade, homemade or homegrown products will be sold at the York Farmers’ Market. No live animals are to be sold. Vendors selling nonfood items, concession type food items and hot or cold drinks are responsible for collection of sales tax and reporting and paying sales tax to the State of Nebraska. The York Chamber of Commerce is not responsible for policing or enforcing the collection of sales tax. If you would like to sell baked goods, it is recommended that you include the following on each package label: name of product, your name or business name/contact information, price of product (such as 3 cookies for $2.00 or cookies-$2.00 per pound) and a list of ingredients. You must have signage at your booth indicating whether your baked goods were prepared in a licensed kitchen or not. This needs to be visible at your booth at all times. If you have products that need to be kept cold, make sure you bring the appropriate materials to keep foods cold (40 degrees and below) so they are not sitting in standing water (make sure your coolers have drain holes). The Health Inspector makes a couple of visits each summer and will issue citations if guidelines are not followed. Multiple violations will result in that vendor being removed from the Farmers Market without registration refund.
Set-Up/Parking: There will be “NO PARKING” signs placed along the south side of 6th street between Grant and Lincoln Avenues requesting cars be moved by 4:00 pm. These parking spaces are for those vendors assigned to those spaces (all seasonal vendors). The north side of 6th street is for customers of the businesses along that side of the street and Farmers’ Market customers. You may use the Sheriff’s parking lot off of Grant Avenue to load and unload, but cars must be moved as soon as you are finished. There is plenty of parking around the town square for vendors. We do ask that you do not park on the north side of 6th street. ALL VENDORS SHOULD BE SET UP AND READY TO SELL BY 5:00 PM (or 8:00 am for the Saturday market). NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO MAKE ANY SALES BEFORE 5:00 PM (or 8am). This policy is in place to give all vendors an equal chance of setting up. The Farmers’ Market committee will announce when it is 5:00 pm (or 8am). The Market goes until 7:00 pm (or 10:00am), however, if you choose to stay longer, that is fine.
